Seventeen Arrested at Gang Party NR09287gb

Los Angeles:  Los Angeles Police Department officers arrested 17 people for parole, probation and outstanding warrant violations during a raid at a gang party.

On June 10, 2009, officers assigned to the 77th Street Division Gang Enforcement Detail (GED) learned that the Rollin’ 60s Neighborhood Crips street gang would be holding their “hood party” at a rented night club in the Studio City area of the San Fernando Valley.  The Rollin’ 60s have for many years been involved in such crimes as murders, robberies and narcotic sales.

Officers who were familiar with the gang’s membership went to the party to gather information and look for wanted suspects.  While at the club, the officers saw several Rollin’ 60 gang members known to be on active probation or parole, the conditions of which prohibit them from congregating with other gang members and or parolees.  Also, the officers smelled the strong and distinct odor of burning marijuana inside the night club.

Having received information regarding criminal activity at the night club, 77th GED supervisors coordinated with their counterparts at the LAPD North Hollywood Division to take appropriate police action.  At about 1 a.m., 30 LAPD officers, 3 Los Angeles County Probation officers and a California Department of Corrections parole officer went to the nightclub to investigate.  When officers arrived, they smelled the distinct odor of burning marijuana coming from within the night club, indicating that no club employees or security personnel were taking action against this blatant violation of the law.  There were about 400 people inside the club at the time, and they were directed to exit though the front door in an orderly fashion so they could be searched and controlled.

Officers made 17 arrests for parole and probation violations as well as four outstanding arrest warrants.  Officers clear the club at approximately 5:00 a.m., and the all arrestees were booked at 77th Area Jail.  There were no injuries to officers or to anyone attending the party.

Any questions regarding this incident may be directed to the 77th Area at 213-485-4164.
