3 Suspects Arrested for Shooting at Plain Clothes Police Officers

Los Angeles – On Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at approximately 8:00 PM, plain clothes police officers assigned to the Narcotics Division Field Enforcement Section (F.E.S.) at South Bureau were southbound on Broadway Avenue in an unmarked vehicle en route to Southeast Area Community Police Station when they were fired upon by three (3) male Blacks in their mid-20’s standing on the corner of 79th Street and Broadway Avenue. Officers observed two of the three suspects were carrying firearms. The F.E.S. officers then deployed upon the suspects who fled the scene.

The F.E.S. officers went in foot pursuit of the suspects and set-up a perimeter to apprehend the suspects. Shortly thereafter, two of the suspects were placed into custody. Sometime later, the third outstanding suspect was caught and placed under arrest. One firearm was taken into evidence. Two of the suspects were booked for violation of Penal Code Section 246 (Firing Upon an Occupied Vehicle) and one of the suspects was released.

No injuries to Los Angeles Police Department police officers resulted from the shooting. The suspects were also uninjured.
