LAPD Sobriety Checkpoint

What:
Sobriety Checkpoint

When:
Saturday, June14, 2008
6:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m.

Where:
Manchester Avenue between Hoover and Figueroa Street

Who:
Traffic Enforcement Officers

Why:
Despite the tireless efforts of thousands of advocates and law enforcement officers alike, drunk driving continues to be one of America's deadliest crimes. This operation will be conducted in an effort to reduce the incidents of injuries, death, and property damage associated with intoxicated drivers. Southeast Division has experienced 35 percent increase and 77th Division a 52 percent increase in Driving under the Influence related traffic collisions year to date compared to 2007.

The checkpoint will serve as a reminder to the community of Southeast and 77th Division to use designated drivers and not drink and drive. Our message is simple, if you drive drunk, you will be arrested.

Approximately 12 traffic enforcement officers (motorcycle officers), 10 collision investigation officers and one collision investigation sergeant will be involved in the checkpoint.

Funding for this checkpoint comes from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration – Sobriety Checkpoint Program IV. We can all help make our streets safer. Report Drunk Drivers – Call 911.

For further information please contact South Traffic Division Sergeant Aoki at 213-485-7336.
