Driver Killed in Alcohol Related Collision

Los Angeles: A Los Angeles man was killed early Monday morning after failing to stop for a red traffic light.

On February 2, 2009, at about 1:30 a.m., Rojelio Sanchez, 25-years-old, was driving a 1997 Ford Explorer, westbound on Manchester Avenue at Main Street with three occupants.  Sanchez ran a red light at the intersection and collided with a 1994 Ford Thunderbird carrying 4 occupants travelling northbound on Main Street

Sanchez was killed in the collision.  South Traffic Division Detectives determined that Sanchez was driving under the influence of alcohol.  His three passengers were transported to local hospitals with non life threatening injuries.

Three of the occupants of the Thunderbird were also transported to the hospital, one in critical condition.

Anyone with information is asked to call South Traffic Detective Jimmy Render at 323-290-6067.  After hours or on weekends, calls may be directed to a 24-hour, toll-free number at 1-877-LAPD-24-7 or by texting CRIMES (274637) and beginning the message with the letters LAPD.  Tipsters may also submit information on the LAPD website  www.lapdonline.org.  All tips are anonymous.
