WHO: LAPD Detective Sandra Smith, South Traffic Division LAPD Detective Michael Flannery, South Traffic Division Vanessa Covarrubias, family member of victim

WHY: On September 14, 2016, around 5:30 a.m., a vehicle traveling south on Western Avenue collided with a female pedestrian crossing Western Avenue at 79th Street. The victim was identified as 79-year-old Maria Covarrubias. She died as a result of the accident. LAPD South Traffic Division detectives are asking the community for their assistance in identifying an outstanding suspect.
