"Suspect Dies While In Police Custody"
 

Los Angeles: On April 23, 2001, at approximately 8:00PM, Wilshire Area Patrol Officers received a radio call of a violent male at the 4900 block of West Pico Boulevard. The officers responded to the location and observed the suspect, subsequently identified as Juan Garcia, male Hispanic, 22 years of age, lying on the floor of the business at the location. The suspect was unconscious when officers arrived. The officer requested an ambulance, and the suspect was transported by the Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics to a local hospital. During further investigation, officers discovered that the suspect had an outstanding felony warrant for possession of a controlled substance. The officers completed an absentee booking and guarded the suspect at the hospital. The suspect never regained consciousness and died on April 24, 2001, at 8:45 AM. The cause of death is pending a coroner investigation.
