Los Angeles – "9-1-1, Is this an emergency?" This familiar greeting is spoken several hundred times a day by the many men and women who monitor the public safety services for the citizens of Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Police Department’s Communications Division, in tribute to their committed service, will be honoring the men and women of the Central Dispatch Center with an open house of their communication center as part of the "National Dispatchers Week."
During the entire week of April 15-19, 2002, the Communications Division will be honoring the employees who serve as the city’s vital communication network to emergency services. The open house, which will encompass a 24-hour period, is open to all patrol officers and members of the media. Refreshments will be served.
