Department Response to Chief Park’s Announcement

April 22, 2002

Los Angeles Police Chief Bernard C. Parks announced today he has asked the Los Angeles Police Commission to appoint an interim chief. Parks, who was denied a second 5-year term by the Commission, now plans to take some time off. Parks says he will be available to help with the transition of an interim chief.
Deputy Chief Michael Bostic was named acting chief effective Monday April 22, 2002. Bostic does not plan to pursue the position permanently. He says his intent is to keep the Department functioning. "The L.A.P.D. is operating as it would in any other circumstance in which a Deputy Chief would be named acting Chief of Police", says Bostic.
The Public Information Officer for the Los Angeles Police Commission will handle questions regarding the selection process for both an interim and new Chief of Police.
