Los Angeles: On Friday, April 4, 2003 at approximately 8:40 p.m., the victim, 21 year-old Donald Deshon Bonds, was standing with a group of unidentified people in front of a location in the 400 block of East 107th Street. The suspect drove up to the group in his 1983 gray Subaru, exited his vehicle and began firing into the group of people with a shotgun. Bond was shot several times in the upper torso before collapsing on the sidewalk. No other injuries were reported.
Southeast Special Enforcement Unit, Gang Detail officers, were nearby and heard the gunshots. The officers immediately responded eastbound 107th Street and observed the victim down and the suspect running. The officers chased the suspect and observed him drop a weapon before entering a residential front yard. The suspect (Eddie Hicks) was detained without incident and booked for 187(a) P.C. (Murder).
Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded and transported victim Bonds to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The motive stems from an earlier dispute.
