Los Angeles: Homicide Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department’s 77th Street Area, are investigating a shooting incident that resulted in three men being shot; one of whom was fatally wounded.
On April 5, 2003 at approximately 7:55 a.m., 17 year-old Robert Lee Robinson and a 27 year-old male companion were standing on the sidewalk in the 900 block of West 81st Street. Two additional males, 29 years of age, and 17 years of age, drove up in their vehicle and began a conversation with Robinson and his companion.
Simultaneously, a suspect approached the location in a vehicle and began firing shots at the four men. Robinson was hit by gunfire and fell to the sidewalk. One of the males ran away, unharmed. The two inside the vehicle were wounded by gunfire. In their attempt to escape, they drove their vehicle to the intersection of Vermont Avenue and Florence Avenue, where they became involved in a multi-vehicle collision. All three shooting victims were transported to a local hospital where Robinson was pronounced dead. The other two men were listed in stable condition. The motive for the shooting is unknown at this time. There are no suspects in custody and no weapon was recovered. There were no injuries as a result of the traffic collision.
