Unsafe Speed Enforcement & Education Operation

WHAT:
LAPD traffic enforcement initiatives directed at motorist who are driving at unsafe speeds.

WHEN:
Thursday, April 14, 2011
7:00 A.M. to 9:00 A.M.

WHERE:
Riverside Drive between Fulton Ave and Hazeltine Avenue, and on Woodman Ave in the area of Notre Dame High School.

WHO:
Sergeant Arturo Gomez, Officer in Charge, Valley Traffic Division – Community Traffic Services Unit
Police Officer Troy Williams, Radar/Laser Coordinator, Valley Traffic Division.

WHY:
Unsafe speed is a leading cause of traffic collisions. This operation will be conducted to improve driver awareness, to change dangerous driver behavior and improved traffic safety in our communities.

Valley Traffic Division motorcycle officers along with officers who are assigned to Top Twenty Enforcement (TTE) Detail will be using LIDAR devices to conduct the speed enforcement.  Utilizing these target specific devices, officers will measure the speed of the moving vehicle from as far as 1,000 ft.

Prior to the enforcement operation commencing, Police Officer Troy Williams will be available to meet with the media from 5:30 A.M. to 6:30 A.M. at Valley Traffic Division, 7870 Nollan Place, Panorama City, CA 91402 for demonstration of set up and test of the Laser device and how it works.  Following the demonstration, officers assigned to the operation will respond to the above mentioned areas to initiate the speed enforcement operation.
