Los Angeles Police Department Targets Repeat Offenders for Driving Under the Influence NA12265vh

December 6, 2012

WHAT:
The Los Angeles Police Department is conducting ongoing enforcement against drivers who repeatedly drive under the influence of alcohol/drugs.

WHEN:
Entire month of December 2012

WHERE:
Multiple locations in San Fernando Valley

WHO:
Commander James Cansler, Operations-Valley Bureau
Captain Jeffrey Bert, Valley Traffic Division
Sergeant Ronald Alberca, Valley Traffic Division Habitual DUI Offender Unit

WHY:
To apprehend drivers that present a safety hazard to the drivers on our roadways.  Many of these repeat offenders drive impaired, on suspended licenses, and do not maintain insurance on their vehicles.

The Los Angeles Police Department has partnered with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) in their DUI Hot List Pilot Program.  This program identifies offenders who have multiple DUI convictions and a suspended license.

Drunk driving is a major cause of fatal injury collisions each year. We are seeking your assistance in saving lives. If you are on the roadways and you observe a possible drunk driver call 911 immediately. Officers will be dispatched to the location and will make every effort to locate the impaired driver and evaluate them for D.U.I.

For more information, please contact Sergeant Ronald Alberca 818-644-8019 or Valley Traffic Division Watch Commander at 818-644-8000.
