Tenant Killed During Dispute at Residence

On Sunday, January 23, 2000, at 1:42 p.m., Foothill Area patrol officers responded to a disturbance call in the 12800 block of Gladstone Avenue in Sylmar. Upon arrival, the officers were met by Johnny Ramirez, a 37 year-old resident of Sylmar, who stated he shot a man who was attacking his son.

The officers secured the residence and located a shooting victim inside the location. The victim, Ray Rocha, a 21 year-old resident of Sylmar, was transported to a local hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.

The investigation revealed that Johnny Remirez shot victim Ray Rocha during a dispute regarding Rocha living in the same house as Ramirez.

Johnny Ramirez was arrested and booked for murder. The weapon was recovered from inside the residence.
