Pedestrian Struck by Train Dies at Scene NR14107sm

Pacoima: Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Valley Traffic Division detectives are investigating a traffic collision that left a man dead after being struck by a train.

Today, around 2:00 a.m., Valley Traffic officers responded to Van Nuys Boulevard and San Fernando Road to investigate a collision involving a pedestrian and a Union Pacific freight train. When the officers arrived they discovered 41-year-old Jesse James Elkins laying at the railroad crossing.

Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded to the incident and pronounced Mr. Elkins dead at the scene.

The initial investigation revealed the train was traveling north bound when it struck the pedestrian near the rail crossing at Van Nuys Boulevard and San Fernando Road.
