Community Police Advisory Board Meeting

September 17, 2009 Minutes
Meeting was called to order at 6:35 pm by Sergeant Plows.
Crime updates: Captain Hays, crime down 7.1% part one crime. Property Crime also down. There were concerns about the City budget. Budgetary cuts will not affect the quality of Police services. Officer Joe Buscaino is due back in October from Sergeant’s School; Officer Brian Cook has been standing in for him. Senior Lead Officer Ron Weaver injured his leg and will be out a few months. Office Jeanine Bedard covering Harbor Gateway for him until he returns.
Cyber Safety Presentation by Robbie Britton Office of the City Attorney Crime Prevention Specialist Crime Prevention & Youth Protection Division. We saw a very interesting and informative video on Cyber Safety for our children. After the video he answered all our questions. He is also available by request to speak at schools. There were two items for open discussion:
1. Movies in the Park.
2. Halloween Parade.
Harbor Gateway Movies in the Park is Friday, September 18, 2009. The theme is “Family back to School,” the location Boys and Girls Club of Harbor Gateway/ Torrance Cheryl Green Community, Youth Center. The movie being shown is Bedtime Stories.
Wilmington Movies in the Park is also September 18, 2009, the movie is Beverly Hills Chihuahua, and is being held at Banning Park.
Harbor Division Halloween Event is October 30, and is going to be a Halloween Traveling show due to construction at the Station that may not be completed in time. We will still decorate the Van, horse trailer and flat bed trailer in Halloween theme with scary and a kid friendly trailer. It will be collaboration between the Police Dept., Explorers and C-PAB.
Meeting adjourned at 8:10 pm, Halloween committee people stay for meeting.
