WHAT: The Los Angeles Police Department’s Harbor Division will spearhead a registry drive for marrowdonors.
WHEN: Thursday, April 27, 2017 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
WHERE: Harbor Police Station – Community Room 2175 John S Gibson Boulevard San Pedro, CA 90731
WHO: Police Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Harbor Division
WHY: At the donor drive, you will fill out a registration form and swab the inside of your mouth for testing. It takes less than 10 minutes to take the first step to see if you can save a life.
Officer Matthew Medina has served the Los Angeles Police Department for 7 ½ years. He was recently diagnosed Aplastic Anemia and is in need of a life-saving marrow donor. Every 3 minutes, someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer, like Leukemia or Lymphoma. 70% of patients don’t have a compatible match in the family and rely on finding an unrelated donor. You can help increase odds for every patient by joining the “Be The Match” registry.
