Man arrested after Fleeing from Police

Los Angles: On Sunday afternoon a Los Angeles man was arrested after fleeing from police.

On July 1, 2007 at about 2:30 PM, Hollywood Division officers responded to a possible "Theft Suspect" at a laundry mat located at 6707 Santa Monica Boulevard. The officers stopped a male, later identified as suspect Curtis Jackson, who was loitering in front of a 7-11 store in the same mini-mall as the laundry mat. During their encounter, the suspect provided the officers with his identification.

When Officer Gallegos broadcast a warrant check on the suspect, Jackson spontaneously stated, "I got warrants" and ran away from the officers. A short foot pursuit ensued, resulting in Jackson and the officers on the ground.

While struggling with Jackson, using body weight and firm grips, Officer Gallegos inadvertently struck Jackson in the head with her police radio resulting in a Use of Force. The officers eventually gained control of Jackson and took him into custody.

It was later determined that Jackson was wanted on an outstanding felony and misdemeanor warrants.

Jackson was treated and released at a local hospital for minor contusions that were unrelated to the head strike.

Police Officer Ivana Gallegos, 36, 13 years with the Department and Police Officer Cory French, 24, 9 months with the Department.

Both officers received medical treatment for minor cuts, bruises and scratches and were later released.

Forced Investigation Division is handling the investigation.
