A Message From the Chief of Police

Welcome to lapdonline.org, the official web site of the Los Angeles Police Department.

This is an exciting time for the LAPD. Our goals continue to be to make Los Angeles a safer city, reduce the fear of crime, prevent and prepare for terrorist attacks, implement the Consent Decree and work in partnership with you, the community.

One of the many tools we use to provide information and help educate our community members is this web site. We are in the process of overhauling and redesigning the site. This streaming video is just one example of the technological improvements we have made and will continue to make.

I am pleased to see the results of a recent survey we conducted that will assist us in making the changes to our site that you feel are important. The positive ratings we have received and your kind comments are sincerely appreciated.

One of the LAPD’s core values is to strive for "quality through continuous improvement." We will continue to improve this site by making it easier to navigate, keeping it updated and making it more relevant to you, the user.

One area of the web site I encourage you to click on is the new "Our Communities." In the past, the only way to get information more specific to your neighborhood was by visiting the LAPD geographic police station. On this new redesigned site, we have subdivided it by various communities and neighborhoods and can now include more specific information relevant to where you live.

But we are not through yet. We have just begun with the improvements. Over the next year you are going to see even more changes to your web site. Changes we hope will encourage you to become involved in working with us to make Los Angeles the safest big city in America.

Please continue to forward your suggestions and thank you for visiting LAPDOnline.

WILLIAM J. BRATTON
