"Two Boys Drown in Southwest Area Family Pool In An Apparent Tragic Accident"

Los Angeles: On July 15, 2001 at approximately 8:30 P.M., Southwest Area Patrol officers responded to a radio call regarding two children who were discovered at the bottom of an outdoor pool, located in the 4000 block of Punta Alta Drive. When officers arrived, the children were lying at the poolside, unconscious and motionless. The officers began CPR on both of the victims until the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) Paramedics arrived.
LAFD transported 8-year-old Tamar Holloway to Daniel Freeman Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:23 P.M. The other victim 6-year-old Dana Pool was transported to Brotman Hospital for initial medical attention, and later taken to Children’s Hospital. Dana Pool later died on July 16, 2001, at 10:00 A.M.
Southwest Detectives responded to the residence and began an investigation. The mother of Tamar Holloway stated that she brought her son and his cousin over to the family friend’s home for a party. The children were playing in the pool earlier in the day with floatation vests on, and decided to play inside around 8:00 P.M. After a brief period, she did not see the two playing, and went to check on them. When they did not appear to be inside, she went to the outside pool area and saw the two children at the bottom of pool.
