LAPD Action Pistol Team

Continuing in the long standing traditions of sharp-shooting officers, the LAPD Action Pistol Team garners respect where ever they compete.  Formed in the early 1990’s, the team has built a reputation of superior marksmanship and professionalism.  Nationally acclaimed and locally revered, the team strives for excellence in all they do.

The 20 member team, composed of officers from throughout the Department, competes several times a month in events at the local, state and national level.  With 200-300 shooters per competition, the events get real competitive.

Participants can use anywhere from 1 to 3 guns in completion. These include a pistol, shotgun and rifle.  Focusing on speed and accuracy, participants maneuver through an obstacle course filled with “good guy, bad guy” type scenarios. These include hostage situations with paper targets, barricaded suspects, pop-up targets that include suspects and innocent bystanders, and vehicle stops gone awry.  To keep the matches competitive for all who participate, individuals and teams compete according to skill level.

With a number of championships to their name, the LAPD Action Pistol Team remains hungry in their quest to carry on the proud tradition that their predecessors have built.
