Mary Helen Ayala

Many of you might know her or just might know of her. She works in the Office of the Chief of Police. Her name is Mary Helen Ayala. She is better known as MH. She is a tenured employee of the LAPD. On October 28th, 2008, she received her 45-year Service Pin from the Department. MH has seen and has been through many changes within the LAPD. But although she is widely known throughout the Department, you might not know that she is a 5K participant. MH walked the “Randy Simmons 5K Challenge Run” in October.

“I was invited by a friend to participate, and also I wanted to honor Randy even though I didn’t personally know him,” said Mary Helen. “It was my first time ever participating in a 5K. I finished the event even though I was feeling under the weather.”

With a couple of 5K’s now behind her, one of her biggest accomplishments was capturing a 1st place medal in her age category.

Since then Mary Helen has gone on to do several other 5k races. “I look forward to participating in more races.” Keeping up with the pace of the Chief’s office we expect Mary Helen to win more medals.
