Academy Graduation of 42 New Officers

Los Angeles: On Friday, March 5, 2004, at 9:00 a.m., The Los Angeles Police Department will graduate 42 police officers. The ceremony will take place at the Los Angeles Police Academy in Elysian Park, 1880 North Academy Drive, Los Angeles.
The graduating officers have completed 1,064 hours of training over the course of 28 weeks. There are 35 men and 7 women in the graduating class. Additionally, four lateral officers will graduate with the regular recruit class. These lateral officers, three men and one woman, are experienced peace officers who have been certified by the California Commission of Peace Officer Standard and Training. They have joined the Los Angeles Police Department after serving with various other law enforcement agencies and completing a two-month lateral officer academy.
It is anticipated that over 500 guests will attend the graduation ceremony. Assistant Chief Jim McDonnell will inspect the class on behalf of Chief William J. Bratton. Representatives of the Mayor Hahn’s office, the Board of Police Commissioners and Police Department Command Staff will be in attendance, as well as their special guests and other dignitaries.
