Teen Loses Control and Crashes into Parked Cars; Passenger Killed

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Sunday, May 21, 2000

"Teen Loses Control of Vehicle and Crashes into Parked Cars; Passenger Killed"

Los Angeles - On Sunday, May 21, 2000, at approximately 1:25 a.m., motorist Michael Burnett, male Black, 16 years of age, was driving his black 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse, south on Crescent Heights Boulevard near Rosewood Avenue. For unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed over the double yellow lines into the opposing lanes of traffic. The driver apparently lost control of his vehicle and struck a green 1998 Ford Explorer that was parked, facing north on Crescent Heights Boulevard.

The impact of the two vehicles caused the Explorer to overturn and collide with a white 1994 Ford Mustang, which was also parked facing north on Crescent Heights Boulevard. Following the impact with the Explorer, the Mitsubishi continued in a southeast direction and ran off the road. The vehicle finally came to rest in the bushes on private property, approximately 205 feet south of Rosewood Ave.

The right front passenger in the Mitsubishi was killed upon impact. He has been described only as a male black, 16-18 years of age. The Los Angeles Fire Department transported Michael Burnett and a rear passenger, 18-year old Yladan Stojanovik, both of Beverly Hills, to an area hospital, in serious condition.

West Traffic Detectives are handling the investigation. Please direct all inquiries to the Media Relations Section, at 213-485-3586.
