LAPD Southeast Division Dedicates Memorial Bench to Fallen Officer

A ceremony to honor fallen Officer James Choquette and dedicate a bench engraved with his name

WHY:   
To memorialize Officer Choquette by dedicating a marble bench engraved with his name, along with an adjacent engraved brick area constructed by Southeast LAPD Cadets that honors past and current officers, volunteers and others who have contributed to the South Los Angeles community.

Tragically, on August 2, 1979, Officer James Choquette, a ten-year police veteran, was responding to a robbery radio call when he was killed after his vehicle was struck by a drunk driver. LAPD Police Chief Charlie Beck, at the time assigned to the Southeast Area as a patrol sergeant, was driving to the robbery behind Officer Choquette.
