Detectives of the Second Quarter 2006

Mission Area
Detective of the Quarter
Second Quarter of 2006

DETECTIVE II JOHN FLEMING, SERIAL 21564
DETECTIVE I NICOLE KITTLE, SERIAL 33477

It is with extreme pride and pleasure that Mission Area announces the selection of Detective II John Fleming, and his partner, Detective I Nicole Kittle, as Detectives of the Quarter for the Second Quarter of 2006. These Detectives are veterans of the Department, Detective Fleming has been with the Department for 31 years and Detective Kittle has been with the Department for nine years. Together, they have been instrumental in the success of Mission Area's Homicide Unit. During this time period they have responded to over 15 call outs and prepared and served 15 search warrants totaling 28 locations. They solved six of nine homicide cases they were assigned. The following information illustrates their outstanding investigations.

On February 8, 2006 after a four month investigation into a gang homicide, Detectives Fleming and Kittle served a multiple ten location search warrant. The operation involved nine teams of officers from various gang details and specialized units totaling nearly 100 officers. The search warrant resulted in four arrests, the recovery of evidence, and valuable gang intelligence.

On March 14, 2006, as a result of a traffic stop, Detectives Fleming and Kittle interviewed a suspect who is a local gang member. Their interview resulted in the recovery of a handgun and the identification of other potential homicide suspects. Examination of the handgun identified it as the weapon in the murder of a rival gang member. The interview also resulted in the identification of potential suspects.

Detectives Fleming and Kittle are recognized for their unyielding dedication and self-sacrifice. Their professionalism, integrity, dedication to duty, teamwork, and loyalty are deeply appreciated. Congratulations!
