Suspect in Custody for Killing a Man Seated in his Parked Car

Los Angeles: Panorama City resident shot while sitting in his car. Detectives soon after the homicide identify and arrest the suspect.

On Sunday, June 8, 2008, at 2:40 a.m., Mission Area officers responded to a “Death Investigation” radio call at the southwest corner of Nordhoff Street and Columbus Avenue in Panorama City. When they arrived, they found Soccoro Lopez, a 29 year-old-male, seated in the driver’s seat of his parked vehicle. Further examination revealed the victim had suffered a gunshot wound to his torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene by responding Los Angeles City Fire Department personnel.

Later in the day, Mission Area homicide detectives identified and arrested 44-year-old Kenneth Harris, a local transient, for the murder of Soccoro Lopez. Robbery is believed to be the motive for the murder.
