Los Angeles:
In policing it is just as important to exonerate the innocent as it is to implicate the guilty.  “This is not just a phrase, these are words that define the character of the Los Angeles Police Department.” said Chief Charlie Beck at a news conference held earlier today.

The news conference announced the arrest of three suspects wanted in the brutal beating of Bryan Stow.  At the same news conference, Chief Beck stated that Giovanni Ramirez is no longer a suspect in this case.

The initial evidence and identifications, which led to his arrest, have been refuted by an investigation that has involved dozens of detectives working 7 days a week for thousands of hours. They investigated more than 850 clues and interviewed over 600 people. Chief Beck continued to say “We have tirelessly pursued the truth wherever it led us and without prejudice to the outcome.  Just as I demand we do.”

Yesterday based on evidence developed by detectives assigned to both Robbery-Homicide Division and Northeast Division, three people were taken into custody.
  1. Louie Sanchez, age 29
  2. Marvin Norwood, age 30
  3. Dorene Sanchez, age 31
Late this afternoon the District Attorney filed multiple charges against Louie Sanchez and Marvin Norwood, including Mayhem and Assault with a Deadly Weapon.  Charges against Dorene Sanchez are still pending.

The investigation into these three individuals is still ongoing and no further details can be released at this time.  Chief Beck has requested that the media respect the investigative process and has asked that NO photos of the three individuals be released, as this could compromise the work of the detectives.  Investigators will provide more details as they are able to.  Chief Beck also said “It is important to keep in mind that we will not try this case in the media, the goal is to find justice for the victim.”
