Attempt Murder on a Police Officer Suspect arrested in Southwest Division NR18026bm

Los Angeles: On January 24, 2018, around 8:45 p.m., Southwest area officers responded to a shooting call in the 4000 block of 3rd Avenue. When they arrived, the officers observed and made contact with a male victim who was suffering from a gunshot wound in an adjacent parking lot. While providing aid to the victim, the officers also made contact with the suspect, Amir Ahmad. During their brief interaction with the victim and suspect, Ahmad fired multiple rounds from an AK 47 style assault weapon at the officers.

The officers took cover and requested help, while pulling the victim out of the line of fire. The officers were not struck by gunfire; however a black and white police vehicle was struck several times.

Ahmad fled the location on foot and barricaded himself in a garage to the rear of a residence in the 4000 block of 3rd Avenue. Officers set up a containment perimeter and requested SWAT. After a lengthy attempt to get Ahmad to surrender failed, SWAT officers introduced gas into the garage. Ahmad reacted to the effects of the gas and surrendered without further incident.
