Cops and Kids Working Together for Peace on the Streets NA18034ti

WHAT:
The Cops and Kids program started in Los Angeles shortly after the Rodney King verdict and its work over the years has clearly demonstrated the program's positive impact on students, parents and officers.

WHEN:
Friday, February 23, 2018 Welcome Assembly: 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Police Patrol Activity: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. LAPD officers and around 250 students will break into groups and conduct an activity with officers taking the role of mentors/coaches as students try to answer typical police calls through a role play activity. Officers and students will then have a guided discussion about how public safety can be improved in Los Angeles communities.

WHO:
LAPD Commander Ruby Flores, Community Policing and Policy Group LAPD Commander Jeff Bert, Risk Management Legal Affairs Group 250 Middle School Kids from Los Angeles.

WHY:
Cops & Kids provides students with an opportunity to have positive interactions with police officers; learn about police work; and work together to improve public safety and police-community relations.
