Rite Aid Pilots “Cool Kid” Community Outreach Program NR19117ll

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department's Commercial Crimes Division (CCD) has partnered with the Los Angeles Area Organized Retail Crimes Association (LAAORCA). This Association is comprised of retail asset protection/loss prevention professionals as well as federal, state and local law enforcement. Due to the success of LAAORCA, the California Organized Retail Crimes Association was created to address the underserved areas of California.

On April 18, 2019, CCD Commanding Officer, Captain Lillian Carranza, met with Rite Aid Divisional Asset Protection Leader, Michelle Jones and Regional Asset Protection Leader Jason Parsons regarding a newly implemented community outreach pilot, funded by the Rite Aid Foundation, titled "Cool Kid."

The "Cool Kid" program was developed to provide law enforcement with Thrifty Ice Cream coupons for children in the community who have been recognized for being a "Cool Kid." The coupons can also be shared with kids who just need something to brighten their day. Rite Aid will be providing more than 6,000 coupons including coupons for officers, so the "Cool Kid" can enjoy a scoop with a police officer.

The Rite Aid Foundation's program is to create a dialogue between Los Angeles city youth and the LAPD with the hope that kids having a scoop of their favorite Thrifty ice cream will put a smile on their face. The "Cool Kid" program is a pilot in the City of Los Angeles and if proven successful will be considered for expansion to other Rite Aid communities.

Any questions pertaining to this program should be directed to Los Angeles Police Department's Commercial Crimes Division, Community Business Coordinator, Detective Joseph Hopkins at 213-486-8430 or by Email at 34096@lapd.online.
