The Los Angeles Police Department is celebrating its 150th Year Anniversary. The men and women who work at the West Los Angeles Community Police Station are inviting the community to join in the celebration by hosting an Open House. The event will include free barbecue, tacos, "Dippin' Dots ice cream," drinks, face-painting, games, jump houses, LAPD displays, a Force Option Simulator, LAPD Memorial Wall, and much more. The event is family friendly and open to the public.

The mission of the Volunteer Community Patrol Program is to assist LAPD in reducing crime by providing high visible policing in high crime areas within the LAPD West Los Angeles Area. The frequency of patrols, locations, days, and times will vary based upon the needs of the LAPD.

Participation by the VCP serves to increase LAPD patrol presence in high crime areas, thus acting as a deterrent.

Each of the Volunteers must pass a background screening process and complete training in the following areas prior to joining the program.

*Vehicle operations
*Slow speed driving/backing
*Radio Procedures and Penal Codes
*Duties and Responsibilities

Our VCP personnel will be at the Open House and readily available to answer questions.

If you are a community member and would like to be involved in the VCP, please contact Officer Phu Ha at 310-444-0735.
