Captain III Denis Cremins, a native Angeleno, was appointed to the Los Angeles Police Department in 1973. He follows in the footsteps of his father and great uncle, who also completed lengthy careers as sworn members of the LAPD. Throughout his career Captain Cremins has been assigned to a wide variety of patrol, investigative and administrative functions. His assignments have included Rampart Area, Jail Division, 77th Street Area, Investigative Analysis Section, Detective Support Division, Robbery-Homicide Division, North Hollywood Area, Internal Affairs Group, Transit Services Section, Operations-West Bureau and Operations-Central Bureau. Captain Cremins directed patrol operations as the Assistant Commanding Officer of Rampart Area from 2004 until his appointment as the Commanding Officer of Newton Area on July 1, 2006.
Captain Cremins holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in the Administration of Criminal Justice from California State University at Los Angeles (CSULA) and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California (USC). He regularly provides instruction at a number of Department schools and has been a guest lecturer at a several local colleges and universities. Captain Cremins is a member of several professional law enforcement organizations including the Peace Officers' Association of Los Angeles County, and is a charter member of the International Homicide Investigators' Association.
