Fight Results in Attempt Murder in the Devonshire Area

On November 9, 1998, at 4:00 p.m., Devonshire Area patrol officers responded to a radio call of a group fight and shooting that had just occurred at Nordhoff Street and Haskell Avenue, near Monroe High School. The victim, a 15 year-old resident of Panorama City, was found to be suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. A second victim, a 17 year-old resident of Panorama City, was also found to be suffering from a single gunshot wound to the leg. Both victims were transported to local area hospitals. The 15 year-old victim underwent surgery and is reported to be in stable condition. The 17 year-old victim was treated and released.

Los Angeles Police Department officers were assisted at the scene by officers from Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Police. A suspect, later identified as Alex Elias, an 18 year-old resident of Panorama City, was detained and later determined to have been part of the assault on the victim. Elias was subsequently arrested for Attempt Murder and booked at Devonshire Station. The motive for the shooting has not been fully established and the case remains under investigation by members of the Devonshire Area Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums (CRASH) Unit.
