Driver Shot and Killed by Gunfire

Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Department’s North Hollywood Area Homicide Detectives are investigating the shooting death of a male Los Angeles resident who was killed in his vehicle.

On November 23, 2002 at 4:20 p.m., LAPD North Hollywood Area patrol officers responded to an "ADW-shots fired call" on the 700 block of Lankershim Boulevard.

Upon arrival, the officers found 26 year-old Enrique Acosta of Canoga Park, slumped over in the driver’s seat of his 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe truck. Shot multiple times, Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

LAPD Detective’s investigation revealed that Acosta and an unidentified companion were driving southbound on Lankershim Boulevard, when three Hispanic males pulled up next to them. One suspect said, "Where you from?" and fired multiple shots at Acosta. After being shot, Acosta continued to drive southbound on Lankershim and sideswiped another car parked at the curb and then stopped near the intersection of Arminta Street and Lankershim Boulevard. The unknown suspects fled the scene.

The motive for this crime is gang-related. Anyone with information that may assist in this investigation is urged to call North Hollywood detectives at (818) 623-4045. On weekends and during off-hours, please call the 24-hour toll free number at Detective Information Desk, 1-877-LAWFULL, 1-877-529-3855.

This press release was prepared by Officer Jack Richter, Media Relations Section, 213-485-3586.
