email Captain Jeff Nolte was born
in Los Angeles, California, and he currently resides outside of the
city. Nolte earned an Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Studies
from Orange Coast College and a Bachelor of Science degree in
Organizational Management/Leadership from the University of La
Verne. Nolte was appointed to the Los Angeles Police Department in
1988. He worked a variety of assignments and Divisions as a police
officer, which included 77th Street, Hollenbeck, Southeast,
Southwest and South Bureau Narcotics. His work experience included
patrol, gangs, narcotics and various other specialized units.

In 1998, Nolte was promoted to the rank of detective. As a
detective, his assignments included South Bureau Narcotics, South
Bureau Homicide, Southwest Division and Robbery Homicide Division.
During Nolte's tenure as a detective, he was assigned to the
Department's Special Investigations Section (SIS). In 2012, Nolte
was promoted to Lieutenant, and he was assigned to Southwest Area
as a watch commander. As a Lieutenant, he was selected to be the
77th Street Area Detective Commanding Officer, and the
Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of Criminal Gang/Homicide Division (CGHD,
also known as South Bureau Homicide). As the CGHD OIC, he was
responsible for overseeing approximately 40% of the City's
homicides. In this position, Nolte also oversaw several Federal
task forces and gang prevention efforts and implemented successful
strategies aimed at efficient crime fighting.

In 2015, Nolte was promoted to the rank of Captain, and he was
assigned to Rampart Division as the Patrol Commanding Officer. In
2016, he became the Rampart Area Commanding Officer, and that same
year, he was awarded the Excellence in Leadership award in
recognition of his impact on crime fighting efforts.

Nolte has a passion for police work and the people he serves. He
has the ability to develop meaningful crime fighting strategies,
which includes the use of intelligence based and data driven
systems. He is committed to the community policing model, which is
inclusive of all members of the community. His community outreach
efforts have led to new relationships and non-traditional alliances
with the diverse communities which have helped to build community
trust and reduce crime. Nolte's strategic approach to crime
fighting has been recognized, and he has been the spokesperson for
LAPD on numerous occasions regarding crime fighting models,
including in Washington D.C.

In 2018, Nolte was assigned to Operations-South Bureau as a
Commander. The South Bureau oversees operations in Harbor, 77th
Street, Southeast and Southwest, as well as the Criminal Gang
Homicide Division. South Bureau has a population of roughly 640,000
people, encompasses 57.6 square miles, and includes such well-known
Los Angeles landmarks as USC, Watts Towers, the Harbor Gateway, the
Port of Los Angeles and the Exposition Park Museums.

Nolte is very proud of his operational experience. On numerous
occasions throughout his career, Nolte has received commendations
and awards for his service. Several of these accolades have
included acts of bravery. Commander Nolte enjoys traveling and
paddle boarding along the Southern California coastline.
