WHY:
In March 2002, the voters in Los Angeles passed a $600 million dollar public safety measure to improve, renovate and expand public safety facilities.
The original Rampart Station was established in 1966 and was located at 2710 West Temple Street. It became too small to house its 380 sworn and civilian personnel, so Rampart detectives had to work at a separate location, 303 South Union Avenue.
The new state-of-the-art facility, designed by the architectural firm of Perkins and Will, is “Gold-certified” by the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. It will house patrol officers, support staff and detectives. Nick Seierup, the architect of the facility, will be available to answer media questions and station tours will be provided.
