"Police Officers Band Together to Fight Leukemia"

The Los Angeles Police Department is conducting a press conference to provide public awareness about the urgent need for marrow donors and to announce scheduled marrow donor drives throughout Los Angeles and Orange Counties during May 2000. In addition, we will be seeking private and corporate sponsors to help offset the cost of $210,000 incurred from testing donors.

The press conference is going to be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2000,

Deputy Chief David J. Gascon of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) will be conducting a press conference to launch a multi-agency effort to help save the lives of Captain Alvin Nishimura, Honolulu, Hawaii, Police Department (HPD); Kiley Condon, son of Anaheim Police Officer Kerry Condon; Kirstie Quezada, daughter of Anaheim Police Officer Raul Quezada; Anaheim Police Officer Judi Harman; Anaheim Police Officer Guy Reneau;
Anaheim Police Officer David Richards; and Orange Police Lieutenant John Whiteley who are all in dire need of a bone marrow transplant.

Also joining Chief Gascon will be Chief of Police Bernard C. Parks, LAPD; Sheriff Lee Baca, Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD); Chief of Police Lee Donohue, HPD; Chief of Police Roger Baker, Anaheim Police Department (APD); and Chief of Police Andy Romero, Orange Police Department (OPD). In addition, the police officers and the two children who need marrow transplants and several local dignitaries will be present during the press conference.

At the conclusion of the press conference, interviews will be available with all the involved personnel from each agency.
