Homeless Person Burned to Death

Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Department Detectives from Robbery-Homicide Division are investigating the murder of a homeless man in the Rampart Area.

On October 9, 2008, at around 9:40 p.m., the victim was on the sidewalk in the 3500 block of West 3rd Street when a suspect approached him and doused with an accelerant. The suspect set the victim on fire and fled the scene leaving a red plastic gasoline container.

The victim was taken to Los Angeles County Medical Center where he died as a result of his injuries. He is currently listed as John Doe, in his 50s, due to his identity has not been determined.

The suspect was only described as a male Hispanic in his mid to late 20s.

The motive for the killing is unknown.
