On March 25, 2008, a Van Nuys Senior Lead Officer received information from community members that a murder suspect listed as one of LAPD's Ten Most Wanted Gang Member had been recently seen in the area of the Valario Garden Apartments. Van Nuys Officers conducted surveillance within the complex area and observed the suspect enter a vehicle.
Officers stopped the vehicle and the suspect was identified, as Soperry Chea a "Ten Most Wanted Gang Member," wanted for the 2005 murder of Harry Yang. Suspect Chea was placed under arrest. During the arrest, the officers located and recovered a handgun from the Chea’s vehicle.
Suspect Chea was wanted for a murder that occurred on April 17, 2005, at approx. 9:25 PM. The suspect and victim were celebrating the Cambodian New Years at the Khmer Buddhist Temple, located at 1720 W. Beverly Blvd.
Chea and victim were involved in a physical altercation. Chea pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim to death. Chea fled the scene prior to police arrival. Gang and Operations Support Division, Asian Gang Unit is the investigating entity.
