Devonshire Detectives Investigate Homicide

Devonshire: On Saturday, September 8, 2001, at approximately 11:00 P.M., a verbal confrontation relative to gang affiliation occurred between two groups of individuals inside the Ralph supermarket, located at 16940 Devonshire Street, in Granada Hills. As four members of one group were preparing to leave the market’s parking lot in a vehicle, a member of the confronting group approached the car and fired several rounds from a handgun, striking one victim several times in the upper torso.
The shooter and his accomplices ran from the location immediately after the shooting and are outstanding.
Fire Department Paramedics transported the victim to Granada Hills Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the attending physician.
The victim is identified as Meliso Martinez, 27 years old, a resident of Mission Hills.
The suspects are described as male Hispanics, possible gang members.
The motive for this homicide is gang related.
