Officer Involved Shooting in Hollywood

Los Angeles: On February 8, 2006, at about 6:55 p.m., LAPD Narcotics Officers were attacked by a suspect as they conducted narcotics surveillance at 5849 West Sunset Blvd.

Police Officer Todd Ramsey, 41 years of age and 11 years with the Department and Police Officer Arvin Asuncion, 34 years of age and 5 years with the Department, were conducting an undercover operation in the area.

Officer Ramsey and Asuncion were on the rooftop of the St Moritz Motel, monitoring drug sales in the around the motel. Officer Ramsey was using his cellular telephone attempting to coordinate a narcotics buy when the suspect approached him from behind. The suspect pulled out a gun and hit Officer Ramsey on the head. Officer Asuncion saw the suspect attacking his partner and tackled the suspect. A brief struggle occurred and the suspect managed to break free and pointed the gun at the officers. Officers in fear for their lives fired and the suspect fell to the ground.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital where he died a short time later. He was identified as 47-year-old Michael S. Hunter of Hollywood.
Officer Ramsey was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for injuries to his head.
