Two Missing LAPD Officers, Located

Los Angeles: On September 9, 2003 at about 4:00 p.m. two Los Angeles Police Officers are reported missing after heading out on a motorcycle ride in the Sequoia National Mountains.
Andrew Kukla, 29 years of age, assigned to North Hollywood Division and Jeff Coles, 32 years of age, assigned to Van Nuys Division were camping with friends in the south-eastern portion of Tulare County. The two set out to ride their motorcycles in a popular recreation area near Kennedy Meadows. Kukla and Coles left their campsite at about 4:00 p.m., stating they would be returning in two hours. When the two did not return by midnight, friends became concern and reported them missing to Tulare County Sheriff’s Department.
Tulare County Sheriff’s Department along with U.S. Forest Service Motorcycle Search Teams and California Highway Patrol began to search the area.
On September 11, 2003 at about 12:35 p.m., the two officers walked into the Kennedy Meadows Ranger Station.
They are in apparent good health and will be examined by a medical team.
