MOTOR OFFICER OF THE YEAR
Police Officer 2+2 Kenneth Snowden, Serial No. 34370, has been selected as “Officer of the Year 2007. It is an honor for the men and women of South Traffic Division to recognize Officer Snowden as the Motor Officer of the Year for 2007. He was selected for this prestigious award because of his demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and willingness to go beyond the call of duty to assist citizens in community from the affluent to the gravely poor. He has been commended numerous times for showing outstanding dedication, hard work ethics and, sincere compassion for Department personnel and community members in their times of woes and sorrows.
Officer Snowden grew up in the City of Pasadena and attended schools in Pasadena at McKinley Fundamental Elementary School, John Marshall Jr. High School and completed his high school education at John Muir High School. He played varsity football in high school in the position of receiver.
Officer Snowden’s employment history started with “The Gas Company” where he worked as a Field Service Representative turning gas on and off, conducting inspections for gas leaks and lighting pilots for stoves and hot water tanks. He did this for more than eight (8) years before he joined the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) when he was almost 30 years old in September 1997. His LAPD work assignments includes Foothill Patrol Division, Devonshire Patrol Division, Valley Traffic Division - Collision Investigation, Central Traffic Division -Traffic Enforcement and South Traffic Division - Traffic Enforcement.
Snowden displays strong leadership qualities and set an excellent example for his fellow officers. The quantity and quality of citations that Officer Snowden writes shows that he is paying attention to education, enforcement and the engineering needs in the identified CompStat areas that will make the Los Angeles community a safer place to drive, walk and for children to play. Officer Snowden is proactive and takes an aggressive posture when it comes to making traffic related arrests of hit and run drivers and driving under the influence drivers.
Snowden has two sons- 12-year old Cameryn and 6-year old Celeb. He lives in the Altadena area and spends his off duty time coaching his sons and their friends in football, basketball, and baseball. Snowden also enjoys traveling, skiing and motorcycle riding. He has an older brother, Gregory Snowden and sister-in-law, Amanda Snowden that both work for the California Highway Patrol. His brother is a commercial enforcement officer and his sister-in-law is a lieutenant. . His interests include dealing in real estate, the stock market and spending quality time with his family. In recognition of his many accomplishments and work achievements, South Traffic Division is proud to recognize Police Officer 2+2 Kenneth Snowden as “Motor Officer of the Year” for 2007.
