Davenport
was born and raised in Los Angeles, California.
His family roots are in South Los Angeles. He graduated from Susan
B. Miller Dorsey High. Davenport continued his education at
California State University, Northridge where he obtained is
Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. He furthered his education at
California State University, Fullerton where he obtained his

At age 12, Davenport joined the Wilshire Area Deputy Auxiliary
Police program and remained there until he transitioned to the Law
Enforcement Scout Program at Southwest Area. At 18 years old,
Davenport became a reserve police officer for the Los Angeles
Police Department. Davenport never imagined that many years later,
he would return to Southwest Area as the Officer in Charge of the
Gang Impact Team, the Commanding Officer of the Southwest Detective
Division and now as, Commanding Officer of the Southwest Patrol
Division. Davenport's career has not been without challenges and
triumphs. He is the recipient of the Department highest bravery
medal, the Medal of Valor. Davenport became involved in a high
speed vehicle pursuit of gang members as they attempted to assault
community members. At the termination of the pursuit, a fierce gun
battle ensued. Although he was shot twice, Davenport re-engaged
himself in the gun battle as a suspect began to approach his
partner. The bravery shown that day resulted in the preservation of
life, not just of him and his partner but that of the community
members. In 2013, Davenport received the Department's Purple Heart
as a result of the shooting.

Davenport has held several ranks including that of police officer,
detective, sergeant and lieutenant prior to being promoted to
captain. His assignments include patrol, detectives, narcotics,
Metropolitan Division, Training Division and administration.
Davenport is committed to improving the working conditions for all
employees. He is even more dedicated to improving the relationship
between the police and the Southwest Community, which is the area
that he calls home.

Davenport is the second vice president of the Association of Black
Law Enforcement Executives, member of the California Reserve Police
Officer Association, the Oscar J. Bryant Association and the FBI
National Academy Associates.
