42 Year-Old Man Shot and Killed in Park

Los Angeles: On Thursday, December 5, 2002, at approximately 10:20 p.m., a shooting occurred at the 2nd Avenue Park located in the 2300 block of West 25th Street. The victim, 42 year-old Michael E. Jackson of Los Angeles, was sitting on a bench in the park when a suspect, only described as a male Black in his 30’s, approached him on foot. The suspect pulled out a handgun and fired several gunshots, fatally wounding the victim. The suspect then fled the park on foot.

Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded and pronounced the victim dead.
 
The motive for the shooting is unknown.
