Shooting Results in Two Deaths in Southwest Division

Los Angeles: On Saturday, December 1, 2001, at approximately 6:55 p.m., 19 year-old Anthony Caldwell, and 16 year-old Sean Cochran, were riding a bicycle in the vicinity of Jefferson Boulevard and 8th Avenue. As Caldwell and Cochran rode along the sidewalk, an unidentified male Black in his mid-twenties approached them on foot with a handgun. Without warning, the suspect shot both Caldwell and Cochran several times. Following the shooting, the suspect ran from the location in an unknown direction. Responding Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics pronounced the two victims dead at the scene of the shooting.
The motive for the shooting has not been determined. The suspect and weapon remain outstanding.
