"Red Light Violation Results in Fatal Traffic Collision"

Southwest – On August 30, 2000 at approximately 12:30 p.m., a two vehicle traffic collision occurred in the intersection of Figueroa Street and Exposition Boulevard.

An uninvolved pedestrian witness observed a white Cadillac proceeding southbound on Figueroa Street through a red light at the intersection. The witness also observed a black Nissan Pathfinder Sport Utility Vehicle eastbound on Exposition Boulevard proceed through a green light and collide with the Cadillac. The collision resulted in fatal injuries to a female passenger who was seated in the right rear of the Cadillac, as well as serious injuries, to a male passenger who was seated in the right front seat. The passengers in the Cadillac were an elderly couple whose ages were estimated to be approximately 80 years of age. The drivers of both vehicles are in good condition. There was no evidence of intoxication in this incident by any of the parties and no arrests were made. The investigation is on going at this time and the case will be presented to the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office for misdemeanor criminal filing consideration.

The driver of the Sport Utility Vehicle was a 31-year-old female. The names of the occupants of the Cadillac are not being released pending notification of next of kin.
