Sobriety Checkpoint NA09324cj

November 25, 2009

WHAT:
Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Sobriety Checkpoint

WHEN:
Saturday, November 28, 2009
8 p.m. to 3 a.m.

WHERE:
South Figueroa Street at West 33rd Street

WHO:
Emergency Operations Division

WHY:
The purpose of the sobriety checkpoint is to reduce the number of traffic collisions involving intoxicated drivers, as well as the number of hit-and-run traffic collisions in the Southwest Area. The checkpoint will promote the use of designated drivers and discourage driving under the influence.

The LAPD’s goal is to continue providing public awareness on the dangers of drinking and driving and the laws concerning driving without a valid license.  Motorists approaching a checkpoint will observe police officers and traffic signs advising that a checkpoint is ahead.  Once directed into a lane, each motorist will be stopped momentarily while an officer explains the reason for the checkpoint.  Our message is simple: If we catch you drunk you will be arrested.

Funding for this checkpoint comes from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.  We can all  help make our streets safer.  Report Drunk Drivers – Call 9-1-1.
