Shooting Kills Three and Injures Twelve NR16325jh

Los Angeles: Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Criminal Gang Homicide Division are asking for the public’s help in providing any additional information for the shooting of twelve victims and the death of three.

On October 15, 2016 at about 12:30 a.m. fifteen people were shot at a private residence in which the owner utilizes it as a makeshift restaurant in the 2900 block of Rimpau Street. A dispute broke out between one male individual and at least two other males, one of whom produced a handgun and shot the male individual. Around fifty adults were attending a birthday party at the location when the dispute broke out.

Immediately following the shooting of this one individual, several other shots were fired indiscriminately in the crowd, including some that appeared to be ‘return’ fire from other party-goers in the direction of the suspects. The initial shooter and at least one other associate, who is also believed to have fired in the crowd, fled the scene on foot.

In the aftermath of this incident, gunfire struck a total of fifteen people; nine males and six females. The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and pronounced three of the victims dead at the scene, including the male individual who was initially engaged in the argument with the two suspects.

A majority of the victims were transported by the Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics or self-transported to various local hospitals. The injuries sustained by the surviving victims ranged from minor to critical condition. Currently, one male victim is in extremely critical condition, while most of the other victims have been released from their local hospitals.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, in conjunction with investigators from Criminal Gang Homicide Division, are still attempting to verify the identity of the three victims and then begin the process of the notification of their respective next-of-kin. Accordingly, the names of the victims are not available for release at this time.

The suspects were arrested on October 16, 2016 in the early morning are identified as Mowayne McKay, 33 years old, and Diego Reid, 25 years old, both of whom are Jamaican nationals. The suspects will be booked for 187(A) PC (Murder).
