Commander Ward is presently the Assistant Commanding Officer of Valley Bureau. Detective Bureau manages the Department’s centralized detective assets, oversees general investigations in the geographic Bureau and Area Detective units, and manages specialized narcotics, organized crime and vice investigations. The entities assigned to Detective Bureau include Robbery-Homicide Division, Commercial Crimes Division, Narcotics Division, Organized Crime and Vice Division, Juvenile Division, Detective Headquarters Division and Critical Incident Investigation Division.

Before assuming his present assignment, Commander Ward was the Commanding Officer of Detective Services Group where he managed the operations of approximately 500 sworn and civilian personnel assigned to the Department’s specialized investigative divisions. He was also designated as the Department Coordinator for Witness Protection, Domestic Violence, Hate Crimes and Immigration issues.

Previous to his assignment at Detective Services Group, Commander Ward was the Assistant Commanding Officer of Operations-South Bureau, which is responsible for providing primary uniformed, traffic, and investigative activities within jurisdictions served by Southwest, 77th Street, Southeast and Harbor Areas. As a Captain for the Los Angeles Police Department, he managed personnel at West Valley Patrol Division, Valley Traffic Division and Administrative Vice Division. He served as the Area Commanding Officer of 77th Street Community Police Station for 3 ½ years. As the Area Commanding Officer, he exercised line command over operations of the patrol, detective, vice and community relations’ functions.
